Pylos
This lovely town presides over the southern end of the Navarino bay. It has a huge natural harbor almost enclosed by Sfaktiria Island, two castles and surrounding pine-covered hills. Historically seen Pylos is very important for Greece. In Navarino Bay an important battle was fought on October 20, 1827 which is now considered a great turning point in the decade-long Greek War of Independence. Al memorized by the monument downtown, and within the Pylos castle.
Pylos nowadays is one of the picturesque towns at the Peloponnese. There are some nice shops for souvenirs, but also fruit and vegetables, fresh fish and meat, bakeries, banks, a postal office and a bookstore. Most are situated around the delightful tree-shaded central square. Under the one-hundred years old tree coffee tastes even better than at home.
